DIY Flowers: What My Parents and I Pulled Off

April 2nd, 2009 at 09:26:26 by Francesca

Having to pay for a wedding in Italy and a vow renewal in the United States, we were always looking for ways to save money and do things ourselves. Because my father is a landscaper, we knew that we could get a hold of flowers for the church. We decided to hire a florist for the bouquets and reception centerpieces and handle the church flowers and the place card area for ourselves. It turned out beautifully. But one bit of advice: Don't take on too much for the day of the wedding. My father, for... Read More...

Laurelwood: A Great Option for Flowers

March 23th, 2009 at 08:09:03 by Francesca

As the daughter of a landscaper who loves flowers, I knew from the start what I wanted for my vow renewal in the United States. For the wedding in Italy, the choices were out of my hands. We were on an island, and the florist was the groom's lifelong friend, so he chose everything and gave the flowers to us as a gift. But in the United States, when we had our vow renewal, all the choices were mine. I wanted a florist who would make my wedding a priority, would pay attention to what I wanted,... Read More...

An interview with Kerri Silvestri, owner of Allow Me Events

May 19th, 2008 at 22:23:25 by Bridgette

I have spent most of my of my career taking a concept to a reality, so realizing the vision that I had for my wedding was one of the most rewarding parts of planning process.  However, I don't profess to being the most skilled when it comes to flowers. I couldn't tell you the difference between a hyacinth and a hydrangea, I don't have much of a green thumb (plants that enter my home have a death wish) and I would rather my husband get me a iTunes gift card instead of a dozen roses. Beginning my... Read More...

DIY Bouquets

May 5th, 2008 at 12:45:19 by Francesca

For the last week, I have been stationed in First Holy Communion Land. Three of my bridesmaids -- Alessandra Baric, Tommasina Di Meglio, and Nina Di Meglio -- made their first holy communion, which meant I had to make a bouquet for each of them. My goal was to create a communion bouquet that went well with their pretty white dress and their unique personality. Any of you could do the same for yourself or your bridesmaids when the time comes for your wedding day. Here are some photos of the bouquets... Read More...

Inspiring Photos in BrideSpace - Orange

March 20th, 2008 at 16:41:12 by Christina

With the new BrideSpace now in place, I thought I'd take a moment to showcase some of my favorite photos.  Personally, I love being able to view pictures by color, and I've seen some gorgeous combinations that I wouldn't have put together myself.  Here are some great examples with the color orange: Tony Yang uploaded this photo - I love how this bride paired orange and pale blue together  for such a striking contrast and a bright splash of color.  Another photo uploaded by Laurelwood Designs shows... Read More...

DIY Flowers

February 19th, 2008 at 15:31:48 by Francesca

Originally, I had planned to do all the wedding flowers -- from bouquets to centerpieces on my own. With a large bridal party (of 24 people) for my American wedding, lots of friends and family quickly talked me out of it. Now, my parents and I are handling the boutonnieres and church flowers, and we hired a florist, Laurelwood, to do the rest. Throughout the decision-making process, I learned why DIY flowers are right for brides, who are looking for simple floral arrangements and are having a small... Read More...
