DIY Stationery: Programs, Menus, Place Cards, and Table Cards

June 28th, 2009 at 12:05:34 by Francesca

Because my husband and I had a wedding in Italy and a vow renewal in the United States, we could not afford to splurge on details. That's why I chose to use my creativity to come up with pretty, but affordable, stationery ideas that I could create myself. In addition to the wedding invitations, I made the programs, menus, place cards, and table cards myself. Here are the results: This is the program that I created. When you opened up, on the first page, you found the names of our parents and special... Read More...

Embossed DIY Wedding Invitations

September 16th, 2008 at 11:37:58 by Francesca

Well, I'm back in Ischia, a small island off the coast of Italy, where I'll be getting married in just 16 days. I can't believe it! One of the things we've been doing with our time since I arrived is delivering the invitations to our guests -- by hand and in person. I mailed them to our American guests before I left -- and I made the invitations myself. I thought I would share them -- and the steps I took for making them -- with you. Here goes:  These are images of the example... Read More...

USPS Rate Increase Starts Next Week

May 6th, 2008 at 10:24:49 by Christina

I was just in the post office today and asked about the stamp options after the rate increase of May 12.  For the RSVP envelope, you have to use a forever stamp or a combo of stamps to get you to the new $0.42 rate.   The cost for the wedding invitation stamp  - currently $0.58 - will go up $0.01 as well.  The USPS will not be introducing a new wedding stamp until June so if your invites are going out between May 12th and early June, you will need to add a $0.01 stamp to ensure adequate postage... Read More...

Thank-you, thank-you and more thank-yous!

April 30th, 2008 at 17:22:54 by Christina

I was recently chatting with Jaime Bedrin, a NYC journalist who was married three years ago in NJ, about different wedding trends and themes.  During her wedding planning, Jaime wrote an article published in Carolina Bride Magazine on thank-you note etiquette.  This article was spot-on so be sure to check out her advice if you are currently in gift-receiving mode!  Jaime's advice got me thinking about my own thank-you writing experience. While I followed most of these suggestions (definitely solicit... Read More...

A Bride and Her Paper Cutter

April 25th, 2008 at 16:24:44 by Bridgette

My joke when I was planning my wedding was that every bride needs a few things to plan her perfect day: Patience, a sense of humor, creativity, vision and most importantly, a paper cutter!!! If there was one tool that I credit as being the most useful during my months of planning I would have to credit my paper cutter. I can remember many evenings, my nimble fingers tired from back and forth slicing, my back hurting from hunching over the cutter, the swooshing sound of the blade sliding back and... Read More...

DIY Party Invitations

April 11th, 2008 at 12:31:27 by Francesca

I've been making invitations for my family for many years now. You might have already seen the bridal shower invitations, I made for my sister-in-law last year (see below). But my invitation and card-making goes way back to kindergarten. Now, my family hires me for free for many an event. Far from professional, my cards still make a great impression, they're affordable, and come from the heart. You can completely personalize them. While taking on your wedding invitations might be a bit too much (... Read More...

Inspiring Photos in BrideSpace - Orange

March 20th, 2008 at 16:41:12 by Christina

With the new BrideSpace now in place, I thought I'd take a moment to showcase some of my favorite photos.  Personally, I love being able to view pictures by color, and I've seen some gorgeous combinations that I wouldn't have put together myself.  Here are some great examples with the color orange: Tony Yang uploaded this photo - I love how this bride paired orange and pale blue together  for such a striking contrast and a bright splash of color.  Another photo uploaded by Laurelwood Designs shows... Read More...

DIY Invites

March 11th, 2008 at 08:53:52 by Francesca

I've been spending a lot of time thinking about the invitations for my wedding recently. They have to be carefully worded and include two ceremonies and two parties because we're getting married in Italy and the United States. They also have to be available in both English and Italian. It's complicated, which is why I've decided to make the invites myself. I'm really pleased with how they're turning out. And I've pretty much completed the design of the save the date cards, which will only go out... Read More...

Cost of stamps will go up...AGAIN!

February 12th, 2008 at 13:25:14 by Christina

Just a head's up for anyone who will be mailing out invitations in the March-May timeframe.  As of May 12, the cost of a first-class stamp will rise $.01 to $0.42.  If your RSVP cards are due back anytime in May, you can avoid problems by using the "Forever" stamp.  The Forever stamp, unveiled in April 2007, will be good for mailing one-ounce First-Class letters anytime in the future regardless of price changes.  You can read more about the stamp here on the USPS website. We had a problem with stamps... Read More...
