Take Your Bridal Party on a "Shapecation"

June 23th, 2008 at 20:35:13 by Bridgette

A new trend is emerging to help brides-to-be get in shape before their wedding.  It is called a “Shapecation” and many brides are choosing this type of bachelorette event over a wild night on the town.  Shapecations kill many birds with one stone.  These type of trips are not only a great way for the bride and her friends to get in shape and focus on wellness and stress relief before her wedding.  They also provide the perfect backdrop for for everyone to get together and enjoy some... Read More...

The Early Bride Gets the Bridesmaid Dress

May 6th, 2008 at 15:00:18 by Bridgette

It is never too early to start thinking about dresses for your bridal party, as many factors weigh in heavily when making a decision.  So the earlier you start, the better off you will be.  First, get feedback from your bridesmaids.  Being the bride, you do have the final say in which dress your bridesmaids will wear but, if you are a kind bride, you will allow your bridesmaids’ preferences to guide your decision.  Years ago, I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where the bride made a final decision... Read More...

Assembling Your Team

May 3th, 2008 at 21:13:51 by Bridgette

One of the most rewarding things about being a bride is that you can share the experience with some of the most important people in your life— your bridesmaids. These days, there really is a lot of flexibility for how you assemble your team. You can have more that one maid-of-honor, the number of bridesmaids does not have to equal the number of groomsmen, the bridesmaid dresses don’t have to match anymore and you can even have a man as part as your bridesmaid entourage. With no hard... Read More...

The Ring Bearer

April 2nd, 2008 at 18:40:22 by Francesca

My flower girls, who will be wearing a mini bridal gown replete with train and pearl beading, must have a mini groom to join them. William Liao, my four-year-old cousin, has accepted the job of escorting the little girls down the aisle. I spent the last week choosing an outfit for William that would befit a little groom. The big groom, my fiance Antonio, chose charcoal gray suits for the groomsmen, and he's giving them Italian ties to wear at the wedding as their gift. We wanted William to look... Read More...

Accessories for Your Flower Girl

March 18th, 2008 at 16:35:39 by Francesca

Anyone who reads this blog already knows that I'm planning to have numerous children, including two flower girls, in my bridal party in the United States. Recently, I've been focusing on their attire for the event. I chose beautiful gowns for them -- one Mon Cheri gown for the five older girls and one mini-bridal gown for the two littlest ones -- which you can see in this previous blog. My groom also chose a David's Bridal gown for my three soon-to-be nieces in Italy, which was a big surprise for... Read More...

Making Little Ones Part of Your Big Day

February 27th, 2008 at 11:47:05 by Francesca

My family is full of kids -- and I couldn't imagine having my big day without them. I know my fiance Antonio feels the same way. That's why children are going to be a big part of our celebrations in Italy and the United States. In Italy, couples don't have bridal parties. There are testimoni, who somewhat serve like a best man and maid of honor. Often, they are a couple themselves, and they dress however they'd like. They sign documents in the church and serve as witnesses when you legally marry... Read More...

Choosing Bridal Party Attire

February 6th, 2008 at 15:05:38 by Francesca

I've been MIA on BrideBoard because my sister, who is also my maid of honor, was in town for the weekend. We were picking out the bridesmaid dresses from Reba Brides in North Bergen, N.J. Like most Italians, I am having a huge bridal party. There are five adult bridesmaids (which includes a maid of honor and matron of honor), five little bridesmaids, two flower girls, a ring bearer, two ushers/ceremony hosts, a best man,  and five groomsmen. What does this all mean? We need to choose attire that... Read More...

Having a Large Bridal Party

December 19th, 2007 at 13:06:20 by Francesca

Antonio and I come from large Italian families, so we had lots of people to accommodate when we started deciding who would be in our bridal party. The good news is that we are having two weddings, so we can spread around the honors -- and Italian tradition does not include attendants, just two witnesses and sometimes young children who carry the rings. What we decided to do was have his three little nieces be like bridesmaids for us in Italy with his sister and brother-in-law as our witnesses. In... Read More...

Bridal Party Makes the Party

November 19th, 2007 at 10:12:20 by Francesca

I'm a little blue today because my fiance Antonio returned to Italy, where he lives for now, after spending 20 days with my family and me in the United States. We were celebrating my brother's nuptials to his girlfriend of nearly four years, Jaci. About 80 people from our side of the family traveled to St. Marys, Penn. in late October for a fall-themed wedding that was a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. (The reception hall, The Red Fern, featured spectacular antler chandeliers... Read More...
