More Italian Wedding Photos

I know it's been a while since I've written. I apologize for that. I was waiting for the pictures to arrive from our professional photographers. Then, our American vow renewal happened (more to come on that), and then arrived the holidays. Now, there are no more excuses. Below you will see some of my favorite pictures from the Italian wedding, which took place in Ischia, a small island off the coast of Naples, on Oct. 2, 2008.


When the bride leaves her house (in my case, my aunt's home in Testaccio, Ischia), friends, neighbors, family, and even strangers throw Jordan almonds, rose petals and coins at her feet. She is usually accompanied by her father. That's my papa', Pasquale, on the right.


In Italy, the groom is escorted down the aisle by his mom. My mother-in-law is disabled, so her eldest daughter, Annamaria, took her place. She then had to wait for me and my father to arrive, so that she and I could switch bouquets.


When we left the church in Ischia, our family and friends gathered outside to pelt us with rice, more Jordan almonds (at our feet) and colorful confetti. My husband came prepared with a rain jacket.

This is one of my favorite portraits. It is Antonio and I in front of Castello Aragonese, one of the focal points of the island and a historical castle that is linked to the island by a bridge.


This is another beautiful portrait of the two of us. In the background you can see the Ischia town of Lacco Ameno, home to a naturally developed rock that happens to look like a mushroom. It's way in the back, but if you look closely, you'll see it.


Italian wedding cakes are different than American ones. This one has a large, thick sheet-cake like base with a second tier in the center that has a bouquet of sugar roses. Most of the cakes are soaked in rum or sugar water to keep them moist.


I decided to share this photo with you because it was a nice, fitting coincidence. Above us, you'll see the Italian and American flags. We didn't even realize it until we received our photos. But Antonio is an Italian, and I am an American, so it was pretty perfect. It was just the right way to cap off our wedding.

Thanks for all the congrats and praise for the wedding we had in Italy. It was a ton of fun, and I'll never forget our special days -- the wedding in Italy and the vow renewal in the United States.
