are favors really necessary?

my mom and i had a lot of discussions about favors--to have or not have them-in the end we decided on jordan almonds, but i'm wondering if even that was necessary.

I think people are getting away from this custom, but they're not there yet...so I would probably say, you're better off having a small favor than disappointing some of the more traditional guests.
